BEAUTIFULLY MINIMALIST DÉCOR

Set in a garden of cherry, maple and camellia trees, guests can enjoy yoga, traditional tea ceremonies and their own private open-air onsen.

Beniya Mukayu, featuring clean lines, light-filled spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows, is designed to bring the natural world indoors. Built over 80 years ago and still family-operated, guests can expect a warm and attentive service. There are 17 guestrooms in total, all featuring a beautifully minimalist décor. Guests can opt for an authentic Japanese room with futons and tatami flooring or a Western-inspired room with polished wooden floors and queen beds. Or one of the luxury suites complete with living and dining areas.

Each room comes with its own private onsen, but you’ll also have exclusive use of the property’s communal indoor and outdoor hot spring baths. Said to have been discovered by a monk over 1,300 years ago, the spring waters of Yamashiro are believed to have many restorative benefits. When you’re not soaking in the springs you can enjoy a variety of tailored, guided experiences, from hiking and temple visits to cooking classes and tours of the local tea factory.
