A Contemporary-styled heritage hotel
Situated on Sri Lanka‘s southwestern coastline, just back from Bentota’s long sandy beach, lies the boutique hotel of The Villa Bentota.
This converted colonial bungalow was originally designed by acclaimed Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, who was first drawn to the property in the 1970s when it was known as ‘Mohotti Walauwa’. It has since been extensively refurbished and is now an inspired boutique hotel and member of the KK Collection family.
The hotel is comprised of 14 individually styled rooms, each of which have been remodelled and designed with elegance and comfort in mind. Ideal for families, honeymooners and groups of friends, the 14 rooms are equipped with antique furnishings, king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms, and some have their own private veranda, balcony or roof terrace.
Amidst the hotel’s vast lawned gardens, you will find two coconut-framed swimming pools, one of which is a courtyard pool dedicated for families. Across the charming old railway line at the bottom of the garden lays a white-sand beach which, if you walk along it, will lead you into the main town and its buzzing cafes and restaurants. The onsite Villa Cafe is also worth exploring, with a menu that showcases a blend of traditional Sri Lankan, Western and fusion cuisine.
