ABOUT THE ITINERARY
A unique opportunity to see the Okavango Delta from a different perspective – in the footsteps of the elephants that have forged their way around the region for centuries.
With two professional cycling safari guides, your group will cover between 40-70km of animal trails and jeep tracks per day, taking in a beautiful procession of acacia woodlands, wandering river banks, mopane forests and savannah grasslands. You’ll observe wonderful wildlife as you go, and enjoy all those classic Delta experiences – game drives, mokoro excursions, boat safaris…
You’ll stay in comfortable mobile campsites, and end with two nights at the stylish Little Sable in the heart of the Khwai Private Reserve.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
MAUN – MOREMI GAME RESERVE
Arriving in Maun, you will be met by your guide who will drive you 1.5 hours to the first mobile safari camp, which is just south of the Moremi Game Reserve. Here you can rest and refuel with a dinner around a campfire.
The next day, following a sunrise wakeup call and a light breakfast, your cycling safari begins. Elephants are natural trail builders, and you’ll follow their paths through woodlands, plains and mopane forests, stopping along the way for wildlife spotting and refreshments. After 5-6 hours of riding, you’ll be back at camp in time for lunch and a well-earned siesta. After a morning in the saddle, your afternoon consists of a game drive with sundowners, followed by a relaxed evening around the fire.
Stay: Two nights in a Natural Selection safari camp
KHWAI RIVER
You’ll begin your day with a 5-6 hour ride to the next campsite, following scenic elephant trails and jeep tracks along the Khwai River. Your ride will be broken up by lunch, at which point you’ll have the option to get in a safari vehicle for a drive into camp, a charming riverside location.
On day four, you’ll continue tracking the footsteps of Botswana’s gentle giants. Keep an eye out for sightings of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and even lion. After this adventurous 6-7 hour ride, you’ll return to camp for lunch and an afternoon in the shade of the mopane trees.
Stay: Two nights at a Natural Selection safari camp
KHWAI PRIVATE RESERVE
Today you’ll pack up and drive north into the Khwai Private Reserve, enjoying a picnic lunch en route. As well as boasting the most enchanting scenery, the reserve is known for hiding some of Botswana’s rarer species, including wild dogs, serval cats, honey badgers and the elusive pangolin.
You’ll be staying at the heart of this 200,000-hectare wilderness at Little Sable, a camp made up of eight tents with private viewing decks. From here, you can venture out on game drives, mokoro excursions and boat safaris.
You can swap one of your nights for a magical, under-the-stars sleep out in one of Natural Selection’s ‘Skybeds’.
