ROB

I’ve been fortunate to enjoy wonderful travel experiences from an early age. Inspired by my father, I knew from as far back as I can remember that I wanted to work in the travel industry. My first trip to the Far East was a family holiday and over the last 30 years I’ve returned almost every year since. The Far East has always been my passion, it truly has it all: stunning beaches, rich culture and history, welcoming people, fantastic food, and great value for money.

What do I love about my job? The fact that much of what I do is of personal interest to me, which I think helps when planning an amazing holiday for a client. The hotels, routes, flights and areas of interest are constantly evolving, which keeps the job fresh and interesting – but of course what I love most is the chance to travel myself!

MY FAVOURITE PLACE

Luang Prabang in northern Laos. A destination that blends natural beauty, rich culture, and a peaceful atmosphere in a way few places can. The town’s golden temples, French colonial architecture, and the gentle flow of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers create a timeless charm. Surrounded by lush mountains and breathtaking waterfalls, Luang Prabang offers both serenity and adventure.

MY FAVOURITE LODGE

Zannier Bai San Ho. The hotel offers a perfect blend of luxury, tranquillity, and natural beauty. Set on a secluded bay surrounded by lush hills and rice paddies, the resort has spacious private villas with stunning views, earthy designs, and modern comforts like plunge pools and terraces. The magnificent beach, vibrant coral reef, and variety of water sports offer both peaceful relaxation and adventure.

MY MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

Cruising the Sekonyer river (Kalimantan, Indonesia) spotting Proboscis Monkeys and searching the forests for Orang Utan. Accommodation is basic, but the off the beaten track experience was amazing!

MY TOP TIPS

  • March in Vietnam, the best time to visit when the weather is good across the country.
  • Stay at the Jaya House in Siem Reap, a great hotel, competitively prices and offers lots of little extra’s which make for a very memorable stay.
  • A visit to Indonesia goes hand in hand with a plate of ‘nasi goreng’, a simple and cheap dish but very, very tasty!!
  • Summer in Sri Lanka, still a great time to visit and combines perfectly with the east coast where the weather is at its best.
  • Although many clients like to visit Japan over Cherry Blossom, I would avoid it due to the vast number of tourists and higher prices. As an alternative consider October, which is a quieter month and the weather should be very pleasant.
