Day 1-3 London - Lisbon - Olinda
London - Lisbon - Olinda

Your flight from London arrives in Recife Airport. You’ll be met at the airport and driven 30 minutes to your hotel in the remarkably well-preserved colonial city of Olinda.

With three nights at your disposal, you’ll have ample time to explore this designated World Heritage Site with its famous Baroque art and architecture. Using a converted 18th-century mansion as your base, you can wander the narrow, cobbled streets just beyond the hotel to admire the lovely old churches and vibrantly painted colonial homes. The art galleries of Ateliê Iza do Amparo and Museu de Arte Contemporânea are also worth a visit.

On the third day, you’ll be taken on a privately guided tour of both Olinda and neighbouring Recife. In Recife, you’ll discover various attractions from the fascinating Francisco Brennand Sculpture Park to the exquisite Golden Chapel. After, a walking tour of Olinda will reveal colourful Portuguese tilework and wood carvings adorned with gold leaves. Finish at the Sé Cathedral where you can enjoy stunning views of the downtown area.

Stay: Three nights in a deluxe superior room at Pousada do Amparo – bed and breakfast

Day 4-5 Salvador
Salvador

This morning you will be transferred to Recife Airport in time for your domestic flight to Salvador, capital of Bahia and home to some of the finest colonial architecture in the Americas. Your hotel sits at the heart of Salvador’s UNESCO-listed historical centre, just next door to the famous Church of San Francisco.

A guide will lead you on a fascinating full-day tour, starting in the modern Barra suburb with its famous lighthouse and continuing to the old historical part of town. After lunch, you’ll make your way to the tranquil waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace compared with Salvador’s busy upper city. You’ll end the tour with a fun percussion workshop, during which you’ll learn the names and sounds of various samba instruments from the repique to the agogô.

Stay: Two nights in a deluxe room at Villa Bahia – bed and breakfast

Day 6-9 Trancoso
Trancoso

Another flight lands you in Porto Seguro, where a driver will be waiting to take you to Casa Uxua in Trancoso. You’ll have four nights to relax in this charming fishing village on the coast of southern Bahia, famed for its spot on the hippy trail in the ‘70s. Life here is wonderfully laidback, with the pedestrian-only ‘Quadrado’ plaza being the go-to spot for shopping, dining and people-watching.

You’ll be staying in one of area’s finest hotels, Casa Uxua, where you’ll have access to a spa and stunning swimming pool built from 40,000 pieces of Aventurine quartz. The beautiful sandy beach is just a five-minute walk away.

Stay: Four nights in a one-bedroom Fronzinha Casa at Casa Uxua – bed and breakfast

Day 10 Porto Seguro - Salvador - Lisbon - London

Today you’ll be picked up from Casa Uxua and taken back to the airport for your return journey back to London. You’ll fly from Porto Seguro to Salvador, before continuing to London via Lisbon.
