ABOUT THE ITINERARY
At Yogyakarta on Java you have the chance to visit Borobudur, one of the world’s most stunning temple complexes, or practise meditation at the ninth-century Mendut Monastery. Over on Bali, Ubud will show you temples guarded by fearsome carved sentinels, silversmith studios and an ancient covered market.
Sumba, on the other hand, provides the perfect setting for beach lazing and indulging in exquisite regional cuisine – a getaway only rivalled, perhaps, by Bali’s Belmond Jimbaran Puri.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
YOGYAKARTA
Arriving in Yogyakarta on the island of Java, you’ll be welcomed and driven to your luxurious hotel. You’ll be staying in a resort that sits in a natural amphitheatre formed by the dramatic limestone Menoreh Hills – a perfect setting for exploring Borobudur, one of the Far East’s most breath-taking temple complexes. On your guided sunrise tour of the site you’ll climb a series of tiers, circular terraces and Buddhist stupas dating as far back as the 7th century and hewn from local volcanic rock.
Java’s spiritual centre also presents you with a choice. You can explore the Prambanan Valley, tour the temples of Kedu, immerse yourself in the colour of Muntilan and Borobudur markets, have your palm read or even meditate in a nearby monastery. During your stay you’ll pay a visit to the nearby rural village of Candirejo where you’ll be able to experience everyday local life and customs that haven’t changed for centuries.
Stay: Three nights in a Borobudur Suite at Amanjiwo – including breakfast
UBUD
From Java you’ll fly to Bali where you’ll discover the picturesque town of Ubud. You’ll be staying in a tranquil hotel just 10 minutes from the town’s creative heart, perfect for exploring its fantastic temples, historic covered market, art galleries and silversmith studios.
Cycle into town and you can witness local dancing, processions and religious ceremonies, but you can also choose to trek along the Ayung River, explore the picture-postcard tiered rice terraces or enjoy a private Balinese dance class. On your final day you’ll discover Ubud’s famous Monkey Forest, the natural habitat of the Balinese long-tailed monkey (crab-eating macaque).
Stay: Three nights in a Valley Suite at Amandari – including breakfast and afternoon tea
SUMBA
Today you jet off to the idyllic island of Sumba in eastern Indonesia where you’ll be able to enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation. You’ll be staying at a small hideaway resort on an immaculate stretch of golden beach, immersed in tropical rainforest with a seemingly endless view across the ocean. You can fill your days with wellness, yoga and meditation, whilst those feeling more active can choose from diving, surf lessons, fishing and guided treks to waterfalls, Stone Age sites and local villages.
A highlight of your stay has to be the NihiOka Spa Safari, a fantastic experience featuring a sunrise trek through the surrounding countryside followed by a visit to a traditional Sumbanese village, a freshly prepared breakfast on the beach and rejuvenating treatments in a cliff-side room at the spa.
