ABOUT THE ITINERARY

After a couple of nights in Kigali, Rwanda’s modern and scenic capital, you’ll set off to meet the playful chimpanzees of Nyungwe Forest. Next, you’ll track magisterial mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in the aptly-named Volcanoes National Park – a truly unforgettable experience.

Your Rwandan adventure is followed by an authentic safari in the Serengeti, where you’ll be able to get up close to some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife on daily game drives and bush walks. You’ll then be able to reflect on everything you’ve seen with some downtime at the luxurious Xanadu Villas, tucked away on the neighbouring island of Zanzibar.

DAY 1-2

KIGALI

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be transferred to your eco-conscious boutique hotel right in the heart of the city. You’ll be perfectly positioned for exploring all that Rwanda’s vibrant capital has to offer, from its peaceful tree-lined streets to its wonderful eateries and boutiques. The moving Kigali Genocide Memorial will take you through the haunting events of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and serves as a permanent memorial to those who lost their lives.

DAY 3-6

KIGALI – NYUNGWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

This morning you will set off with your driver and private vehicle to Nyungwe Forest National Park, a charming route that weaves through beautiful rolling hills. Set within the lush confines of a working tea planation, your luxury lodge is conveniently positioned on the edge of the park.

The largest expanse of montane rainforest on the continent, Nyungwe Forest shelters 275 species of bird and 75 different mammals, including various primates. Chimpanzee trekking with experienced guides is the highlight here, but you’ll also have the opportunity to spot black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and colourful birds like the giant hornbill and great blue turaco. Otherwise, you can embark on leisurely waterfall walks, go mountain biking through the verdant rainforest and pay visits to the nearby tea factory.

DAY 7-9

VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Today you’ll be transferred by private vehicle into the enchanting Volcanoes National Park where an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience awaits you. Your home for the next three nights is Singita Kwitonda Lodge – a leader in sustainable tourism with spectacular views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes.

During your stay, you’ll be led on thoughtful, guided excursions in search of the endangered mountain gorilla, as well as golden monkeys. Other low-impact activities on the menu include village visits, cooking classes, wine tastings and yoga. Don’t miss out on a visit to the lodge’s

on-site nursery which was founded to assist the reforestation and rewilding of the area around Volcanoes National Park.

DAY 10-13

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Leaving Rwanda’s misty rainforest behind, today you’ll board a flight from Kigali headed towards Tanzania and the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. Your lodge sits on a 350,000-acre private reserve where giraffes, elephants, big cats and huge herds of antelope roam. Twice daily game drives with professional guides will take you through the reserve’s rolling grasslands, riverine woodland and hidden valleys in search of Africa’s most iconic wildlife. Walking safaris are also available and are a great way to experience the bush up close and personal.

In between excursions, you can indulge in a soothing wellness treatment or practise your serve on the lodge’s tennis court – all surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness.

DAY 14-17

ZANZIBAR

Today you’ll hop on a short flight to the neighbouring island of Zanzibar for some much-deserved R&R. You’ll spend four nights at a luxurious resort in the midst of white sands and turquoise Indian Ocean waters, less than an hour from historic Stone Town.

Days at Xanadu Villas can be as active or as restful as you like. When you’re not relaxing in your private villa you can stroll along the beautiful beach, soak up some sun by the pool or indulge in a treatment or two at the spa. You’ll have access to a wide range of outdoor activities, from sea kayaking and snorkelling to surfing and stand-up paddle boarding. Excursions to Stone Town, Prison Island and Jozani Forest can also be arranged.
