ABOUT THE ITINERARY
Steeped in Bedu tradition and home to some of the most sensational natural landscapes imaginable, Oman is, without doubt, one of the Middle East’s most alluring destinations.
On this Simply Oman holiday itinerary, you will uncover some of the country’s greatest highlights, from the stunning 18th-century architecture of Old Muscat to the monumental mountains of the Al Hajar. In between, you will journey into the depths of the Wahiba Sands, where you will find yourself amongst an endless expanse of red sand and dunes over 200 metres in height. Your luxury holiday to Oman will also include a visit to Ras Al Jinz, where you will be able to watch endangered green sea turtles amble onto the beach to lay their eggs.
MUSCAT
On arrival in Muscat, you will be met and privately transferred to your luxury hotel situated in the city’s prestigious Qurum Heights district. Relax after your flight amongst the hotel’s landscaped gardens.
Stay: One night in a standard room at Crowne Plaza Muscat – bed & breakfast
AL HAJAR MOUNTAINS
Today you will be picked up by your driver and driven two and half hours to your luxury resort in the Al Hajar Mountains. From here you can explore attractions like the Al Hoota Cave, historic Nizwa Fort, ancient town of Al Hamra and impressive Jebel Shams – the highest mountain on the Arabian Peninsula.
When you’re not soaking in the breathtaking mountain scenery you can fill your days with trekking, mountain biking and hiking expeditions, plus visits to isolated villages tucked into the mountainsides.
Stay: Two nights in a superior room at The View – half board
WAHIBA SANDS
The stunning Wahiba Sands – an endless ocean of golden sand with dunes that rise up to 200 metres – is your next stop. You’ll be staying in a traditional Bedouin-style tented camp at the heart of the desert where you’ll really be able to appreciate the silence and splendour of your surroundings. Activities on the menu range from trekking across the dunes to sensational star gazing. At night, the inky sky, brilliant stars and deafening silence are incredible.
Stay: One night in a Premium tent at 1000 Nights Camp – half board
RAS AL JINZ
Today you will make your way to Oman’s eastern coast to reach Ras Al Jinz, the point where the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea meet. The beach here is a protected turtle-nesting site where endangered green sea turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. Guided excursions are led each night to allow visitors to view this magical process.
Stay: One night at Ras Al Jinz Scientific & Visitor Centre in an Eco Tent with breakfast
MUSCAT
You’ll reach Muscat by day seven, and have ample time to soak in the city’s intriguing blend of the old and new which features the ancient port of Muttrah, Portuguese colonial buildings and iconic 21st-century landmarks. Your hotel, a five-star retreat set on a glorious stretch of beach, puts you within easy reach of the city’s historic tombs, monuments, forts and museums.
You can also enjoy adventure activities like abseiling and caving, or make the most of the hotel’s temperature-controlled swimming pool, whirlpool bath or tennis courts.
