Day 4: Trani / Alberobello / Lecce
Leave by coach (with luggage) to Alberobello, to walk through the small market town which is famous for its trulli, conical stone houses. Continue to Martina Franca, centre of a wine-growing district, for a walk in the hill town where there are many attractive Rococo palaces and churches, including the Town Hall, which is attributed to Bernini. Also visit the Cathedral of San Martino.
Visit privately a beautifully restored Trullo and lunch by kind arrangements with the owner (subject to confirmation). Continue to Lecce and check into the 5-star Hotel Patria Palace where two nights are spent. The hotel is situated in the heart of the historical centre and opposite the monumental church of Santa Croce. Dinner under own arrangements.
Day 5: Lecce
Morning walking tour of the town including the Church of Santa Croce, which is a perfect example of Leccese Baroque, the remains of the Roman amphitheatre, the Duomo, and the exteriors of the Seminario, and the Archbishop’s Palace. Lecce is commonly nicknamed "The Florence of the South" and the city has a long traditional affinity with Greek culture going back to its foundation.
Lunch under own arrangements and afternoon at leisure in Lecce. Early evening privately visit to Villa Carrelli, a 19th century patrician residence. The Villa has a beautiful garden that extends in front of the house, which was designed by Pietro Porcinai, Italy’s most famous 20th century landscape and garden designer. Buffet dinner at Villa Carrelli (subject to confirmation).
Day 6: Lecce / Bari / London
Check out of the hotel and transfer to Bari Airport for a British Airways flight from Bari to London Gatwick, arriving in the afternoon.
