Hello from Sri Lanka

Neil is currently in Sri Lanka and keeping us updated on his morning activities across the Kandalama Reservoir.

I left my hotel, the fabulous Vil Uyana, at 5am this morning for a hot air balloon flight from Dambulla in the ‘Cultural Triangle’. The light breeze carried us over Kandalama Reservoir towards Sigiriya Rock and the views were stunning, as you can see from the picture.

Although I am okay with heights, I have to admit to a certain unease before climbing into the basket. But that was soon forgotten and the whole experience was amazing. And following the gentlest of bumps on landing, we were treated to sparkling wine, which would have settled any remaining nerves…even at 7am!

This simply is a must do if you’re visiting this part of the island.

MORE NEWS FROM SRI LANKA!

Neil sends word from Gal Oya National Park.

‘I’m currently at the fabulous Kandy House, reflecting on my time in Gal Oya National Park. I stayed in the park at the excellent Gal Oya Lodge which offers a wonderful boat safari on the lake to view the many species of birds as well as monkeys, crocodiles and elephants.

It’s the wet season here in Sri Lanka, so not the best time of year for seeing elephants at the lake as there are numerous other water sources for them to choose from. That said, we did see three elephants, one of which went for a swim – a rare sight indeed!’
