The latest addition to the esteemed Explora hotel group, Explora El Chaltén opens its doors in late 2020. Nestled in the Los Huemules Nature Reserve, to the north of the popular hiking destination of El Chaltén, Explora El Chaltén has jaw-dropping views towards the Electric Valley and the Marconi Glacier and opens up a new part of Patagonia for its guests to explore.
Explora El Chaltén has been designed to imitate the style of the estancia’s which are so synonymous with Patagonia. However, like Explora’s hotels in Torres del Paine, the Atacama Desert, Easter Island and the Sacred Valley of the Incas, it has a modern and warm feel inside. Open-plan and free flowing spaces, light woods and large windows give it a sense of calm inside, and there are plenty of cosy cubby holes for guests to relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the spectacular views.
Explora pride themselves on the quality of their ‘explorations’ – guided activities in small groups, designed so guests can discover the surrounding area and are accompanied by Explora’s own bilingual guides. At Explora El Chaltén it is no different and guests can enjoy a variety of half-day and full-day activities, including treks, ice hikes, overland trips and even rock climbing. Activities are in groups no larger than eight and guests will be able to explore the towering peaks and Patagonian forest of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Los Glaciares National Park. The program of explorations has been designed to suit all guests and features well known attractions including Mount Fitz Roy as well as Explora’s own excursions, created in the Los Huemules Nature Reserve.
The climate in Patagonia can be harsh, so having a comfortable bedroom to retreat to in the evening is essential. The rooms at Explora El Chaltén have been designed with that in mind, offering a clean and elegant space with stunning views towards the Electric Valley and Marconi Glacier. There are just twenty rooms int toal, split between seventeen standard rooms and three suites. The main difference is the size, with the standard rooms 36m2 and the suites 60m2.
Exploring the valleys, rivers, mountains and glaciers of Argentine Patagonia, one can easily build up an appetite. Thankfully guests can enjoy delicious local delicacies in the hotel’s restaurant and relax with a Patagonian brewed beer in the Explorer’s Bar. Like all Explora hotels, your stay is all-inclusive, which means you never have to think or worry about plans for dinner. Whilst on full-day explorations, packed lunches are provided and snacks are always available in the reception area, as well as light bites from the bar.
Explora El Chaltén also has a gift shop, ideal if you don’t have the correct clothing or want to buy any souvenirs. There is also a spa, which is the perfect place to relax after an intense day of exploring Patagonia.
NOTE – For guests looking to include Explora El Chaltén in their tailor-made holiday, we suggest a minimum of four nights, as much of the first day is spent getting to the hotel.
